  • @rabtech I got my finger on the button - do you think they will hold up in a rain storm - I don't mind spendin the $$$ but don't wanna throw it away either.....your thoughts

    PS I ain't askin for a guarantee :)

I might not be right but I can sure sound like it

  • Great thread good info Here is my simple question for you sound system guru's. do I need to add an amp of some sort to power this setup or can I just splice into the stock speakers? Thanks in advance!!!

I ain't no stereo guru by any means but my stereo guy (30 years experience) told me the Polaris head unit and speakers were absolute crap and if I was gonna do sumthin change the head unit before anything else. Went to JL Mediamaster head unit, JL amp & speakers - all marine grade. Very happy and if I can get right speakers for these new headrest pods I think I will be finished with sound.....maybe ;(

need amp.... the little bit of amp in the head unit is being pushed to its limits already

  • What about these @Bill Martin? If you've got the cash... :00000019: Stick with JL... Marine... Chrome... But 6.5? Maybe they are 6.75 too?

Good find @MiM. What about these @rabtech - they are pricy but am tickled to death with rest of my JL stuff - will these fit??? From what I understand NO right??

There is no way those speakers are worth 375.00. I actually hated my C2 JL speakers.... I also smoked 4 of them, So far I would just stick a set of Rockfords or Memphis or even Polk

I cant see where a coaxial speaker is going to take a beating with some rain... I have never had an issue and mine dont even have a cover.

I am going to let y'all pick your own speakers. Bill just pick one that will fit a 6 3/4 hole...

  • Hi Guys,

My name is Trevor and I'm with SSV Works. It looks like you got the questions sorted out while my account was getting activated but I'll answer a few just for clarity.

First off, thank you for positive comments on the new enclosures. Our design team did a great job and all new SSV Works parts will have a similar 'feel'. I'm super excited about the new slingshot parts we've developed and they're coming fast. I think you guys are going to love 'em.

OK, so... car audio is crazy. As Rab pointed out, 6.75 is the new 6.5. However, to not confuse customers almost all companies refer to them as 6.5's still except for occasional marketing claims.
What matters is the bolt circle (screw hole pattern) and the clamp diameter (widest part of the speaker basket behind the flange).

Most old marine speakers were small and slow to adapt the 6.75 theory until recently. However, Rockford made the RM0 and RM1 marine speakers specifically to fit in our enclosures. The JL audio MX series speakers also line up and fit perfectly. Our favorite option is the KX series marine speakers from Kicker and they also fit and work perfectly. And, the best option :) is the new SSV Works powersports marine A6 (available in 3 weeks) as it was designed for open air powersports vehicles and is a perfect fit and style for the sling. ALL of those speakers listed above are ARE referred to as 6.5 and not 6.75 by the manufacturers... Even the JL Audio CS speakers you mentioned are actually called a 6.5" speaker by JL. You posted a pic from Sonic Electronix that called them a 6.75" because they do a great job of their own write ups and photos instead of reposting mfg. info.

Hope this helps, please let me know if there are any other questions.
    Trevor

  • Welcome to the forum @SSVworks - Trevor! Figured I would get that in before you are bombarded with questions. To start it off I have your new headrest pod in my hot little hands. How did you guys intend for the wire to be ran to a amp under the seat???

Cruise over to Haleyville, AL & have it done for you!

  • Thanks Bill,

We put the amps under the dash behind the factory radio or pocket. I worry about them under the seat because they're so low to the floor it's easy to get water in them. Even a marine amplifier cannot handle 1 drop more water then a car amplifier. The main difference is that a marine amp has a conformal coating sprayed on the circuit board to protect the copper traces against salt air corrosion. So, the higher the dryer in this case. However, we designed an awesome little sealed amplifier just for the purpose. At the CES show 2 weeks ago we release complete plug-n-play mounting solutions for a number of Side X Sides including the Slingshot. They'll be available in under 30 days and we'll have pics to share of the components next week.

In terms of wire routing... Option 1) The best way is to pull the seats and the rear panel around the storage boxes and route up the center cosole. If it's a 15-16 there are a bunch of bolts and takes about 30-60min. the 17+ use a panel clip fastener and is quicker.
option 2) you can pull the rear hoop covers and fish from one side to the other. Pull one of the shoulder bolsters by the seat and fish the wires down the side to the floor then run under the floor panel seam or along the bars by the pods and upto the radio.

Damn Trevor - where ya been all my life?? I already had the JL amp installed under the seat but did not know that marine amps can't handle any more water than a regular car amp. Why do they call it marine grade?? Just tryin to learn sumthin here :)

I might not be right but I can sure sound like it

  • I have read this whole thread and the only thing I'm sure about is I have the pods. Afraid not to go marine grade cause I know the first time I go out I will get caught in a storm of Noah's proportions and they will be fried. I like the Rockfords ya got there @BONES . Can anyone tell me if this grill will work that speaker??

I don't believe the Kicker 6.5 will fit and y'all know how I LUV chrome

@Bill Martin just by looks I would think you would be good.. but again that's looking @ pic ?(

I Have No more toys, just memories.... :/

  • LOL... Technically it IS marine grade. It's just that marine doesn't mean what most think it does (or should). Boats really don't get water inside or they have bigger problems :P Soooo, marine to amps means the coating on the PCB to prevent the corrosive salt air from deteriorating the conductivity of the board traces. It really is a VERY common misconception.

Infact, the last pair of Polk-Momo speakers I saw were rated 'coast guard certified' (not even sure what that is) as marine speakers, they all had open pole pieces holding the tweeter. Car audio speakers don't have a tweeter post gasket seal that protects the inside center of the speaker and that can be a big problem for a speaker in the elements..
